SIMULATION FACILITIES

We have a wide range of equipment available to simulate many clinical environments such as operating theatres, A&E resuscitation bays and clinical wards, GP etc. Please feel free to contact the team
for further information.

We run a faculty development programme if you are interested in being part of the team.

Rooms

Community Care

GP Room, Clinic Room, Care Home, Breaking Bad News Room

Ward

Comprises of two bed bays with option to run two manikins side by side. All equipment available to enhance the simulation such as drug trolley, Resus trolley with defib, nurses’ station, phone for escalation.

Acute setting

Operating Theatre/ED/ITU. All equipment available to enhance the simulation such as Anaesthetic Machine, ITU Ventilator, Ultrasound Machine, NIV.

Insitu

All of our manikins have the ability to utilise WIFI, this allows us to take simulation one step closer to reality by enhancing the scenario within the clinical setting. We are experienced at running simulation within, ED, Obstetrics, Theatres, Wards, Radiology and in the Ambulance setting. This one of the best ways to review process management, human factors and system failures.

Console

This is the main hub of running simulations, it allows for the faculty to prepare, run and assess the scenario. In order to capture the best possible video images our suites are equipped with SMOTS cameras which allow the trained faculty to observe the simulation and aid with comprehensive debriefing.

Debrief

This room allows for private discussions to take place in a controlled setting. The trained debrief faculty member will lead the discussion allowing all candidates to learn from the scenario. The room allows for candidates to observe on-going simulations. Max capacity 12. (However SMOTS is able to link through to all of our larger training rooms in the post grad
building).

Laparoscopic Orthopaedic Simulation Trainer

Meet the VirtaMed ArthroS™ knee, shoulder, hip, and ankle simulator for arthroscopic skill training using an original arthroscope, camera and other surgical instruments adapted for simulation. We are the only hospital in Kent to have this equipment. Manufacturer's guide

Lucina

Unrivaled realism and versatility for normal childbirth and emergency scenarios CAE Lucina allows clinicians to practice pre-partum assessment, labour and delivery, emergency care and transport all within one wireless patient simulator. With modelled and validated physiology that is integrated with the fetal physiology, Lucina responds automatically to obstetric manoeuvres and clinical interventions. Lucina offers the most complete training in shoulder dystocia management and supports mechanical ventilation. With the addition of the Female Patient Module, Lucina easily transforms into a non-gravid patient for practice of emergency scenarios. Manufacturer's guide

Apollo

A proven patient simulator for more effective training CAE Apollo is a high- fidelity, tetherless and fully wireless adult patient simulator. CAE Apollo has all of the benefits of CAE’s modeled physiology to allow for more realistic patient behavior and responses to interventions. With tailored configurations for nursing or prehospital programs, CAE Apollo offers versatility and fidelity for individual or team training.
Built on a platform that has been field tested by more than 1,600 customers around the world, the CAE Apollo patient simulator allows learners to gain experience in a wide range of emergency or patient care scenarios. With a CPR analysis feature that is compliant with AHA guidelines, a realistic airway and articulation in the neck, shoulders, elbows, arms and hips, CAE Apollo sets the standard for reliability, quality and value in patient simulators. Juno

Nursing programs are challenged with preparing new nurses for today’s hospital environment and sicker patients, even as access to clinical hours has diminished. Simulation can help fill the gap by delivering consistent training and helping learners to develop critical thinking skills. Introducing CAE Juno, CAE Healthcare’s clinical skills manikin and newest offering for nursing programs. Juno is a modern manikin that was designed to meet educational requirements for clinical nursing skills, from task training through advanced patient care scenarios. Manufacturer's guide

3G

Scenario-based training using SimMan 3G perfectly combines the need to identify skill improvement areas for individuals as well as those essential for a team to function together, such as communication, behaviour, and leadership.

  • Completely wireless and self-contained
  • Multiple Airway Skills/Features/Airway Complications
  • Breathing Features/Breathing Complications
  • Cardiac Features/Circulation Features
