Educational Supervisor Refresher Workshop

Since 2016, Supervisors are required to show evidence of their training, assessment and supervision practice (see GMC Recognition and Approval of Trainers page http://www.gmc-uk.org/education/10264.asp

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the workshop participants will have generally:

• · Considered ways to share learning and reduce error repetition
• · Discussed roles of trainers in supporting excellence
• · Described the functions of formative and summative assessment
• · Discussed the role of WBAs in postgraduate training
• · Identified the roles and responsibilities of the supervisor
• · Described the functions of formative and summative assessment
• · Reviewed the purposes of observational tools
• · Considered the role of feedback in learning and assessment
• · Discussed ways to develop trainee participation in a range of appropriate activities
• · Reviewed the role of MSF in surgical training
• · Set goals for future practice with the trainee
• · Considered ways to allow trainees access to learning opportunities in the workplace
• · Discussed ways to ensure effective use of WBAs to develop learning
• · Highlighted ways to ensure trainees are observed and receive feedback
• · Shared examples of supervisory practice
• · Begun to record their supervisory practice
• Identified common conversations with trainees
