This half day workshop draws on current educational experience to ensure all participants are aware of their roles, responsibilities and best practice in recording their suitability to train their postgraduate doctors in training.

About the Event
Since 2016, Supervisors are required to show evidence of their training, assessment and supervision practice (see GMC Recognition and Approval of Trainers page http://www.gmc-uk.org/education/10264.asp
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the workshop participants will have generally:
- · Considered ways to share learning and reduce error repetition
- · Discussed roles of trainers in supporting excellence
- · Described the functions of formative and summative assessment
- · Discussed the role of WBAs in postgraduate training
- · Identified the roles and responsibilities of the supervisor
- · Described the functions of formative and summative assessment
- · Reviewed the purposes of observational tools
- · Considered the role of feedback in learning and assessment
- · Discussed ways to develop trainee participation in a range of appropriate activities
- · Reviewed the role of MSF in surgical training
- · Set goals for future practice with the trainee
- · Considered ways to allow trainees access to learning opportunities in the workplace
- · Discussed ways to ensure effective use of WBAs to develop learning
- · Highlighted ways to ensure trainees are observed and receive feedback
- · Shared examples of supervisory practice
- · Begun to record their supervisory practice
- Identified common conversations with trainees
